Hints and tips for writing a successful resume

CHICAGO, IL -- Getting a job - be it your dream job or one you need just to get by - can be really hard. But something that many people find even harder is the process they need to go through to produce a winning resume. Here are several resume writing tips to consider:

Purpose - A resume is an advertisement, nothing more, nothing less. The most important part of the resume is the top half of the first page, this has to catch the employer's interest or your resume has failed. Targeted - target the resume to the job. Get rid of extraneous information that they don't require. Well written - you want to make an impression, use power words. For example established, implemented, created and streamlined. Consistent - with the formatting, style and font. Emphasize important points with bold, italics and underlining.

Summarized qualifications - with this you need to sell your qualifications for the position. What do you have that others don't, what will you bring to this position. Self Promoting - Don't be shy. Highlight your experiences and how others have benefited from your productivity. Abbreviations - Don't use them. No personal stuff - personal data does not need to be included such as height, weight or age. Grammatically correct - Don't trust spell check, get someone else to read it. Spelling mistakes and typos suggest a poor quality of work.
